Sight Fishing ~ Sight fishing is the method used in New
Zealand on gin clear rivers with low populations of
trout. In our years of travel to fly fish there, we've
loved the optics of sight fishing, getting quite
competent at the particulars of sighting trout, and then
not only improving approach, positioning, and
presentation for the fly, but also for the video camera.
It's a lot of fun. Most North American fly fishers fish the
water or fish 'head hunting' style.
While we head hunt often. our passion is to sight individual
trout as you see in these videos! And there are scores of good waters through the
season to sight fish. From the Bow to the Ram, to our
brown trout or cutthroat trout streams, sighting fish can be great sport.
If you've never tried sight fishing, we invite you to
book a day to learn how - all the ins and outs of what
to look for, how to approach the water, and apply the
proper technique and presentation to the trout. It's a
fascinating method as it typically puts you in quite
intimate encounters with trout. Best of all, once you
learn how to sight fish well, you can literally apply
the tactic to any trout water anywhere and have great
success. For intermediate or advanced fly fishers, this
is a perfect
way to work with us in a team sport - having good sets
of trained eyes working for you from a different vantage
point. For
beginner fly fishers, this is
an amazing opportunity to
see what the fish we're trying to catch are doing!
