"Our fly fishing is driven by the enjoyment of time
on the water that involves observation - absorbing what
the fish is doing in its environment in order to learn
which application is best. We love the enjoyment of
engaged moments that add up to exceptional days - we
fish to enjoy the moments as they unfold. We're as happy
at the end of the day having had interesting encounters
with fish as having caught them. Our style of fly
fishing places ourselves in intimate positions to sight
individual trout or to work risers in close proximity.
These styles of fishing won't usually give you heavy
fish counts, rather, opportunity at some larger trout in
unique settings and learning a great deal. We travel to
the S Island of New Zealand each year, fly fishing for 3
months. We've learned a lot about sight fishing and
stealthy approach to large, wily browns and apply it to
our waters here. It's quite a different approach than
used in N America. We invite you to join us this season." ~ Dave & Amelia Jensen |
Our services are designed
to reflect our desire ~ to provide beginner fly fishers
opportunity to improve by immersing them in
situations allowing success - yet in a manner that leaves
room for further
aspiration; to provide intermediate anglers opportunity
to apply their knowledge and skill in discovering new opportunities; and to provide advanced fly fishers
new methods and applications that might open doors
previously not thought to open, as well as to work with
an experienced set of eyes on the water.
Through the years of hosting trips, we've found that our river
fishing guests love sight fishing and head hunting - which is a
perfect fit with our passion. This style of fishing also lends
itself well to photography and videography, which is a strong
component of who we are on stream. We are able to help you with
photos/videos on the water, with different settings, angles, etc
through discussion athroughout the day(s).
Our
trips are primarily about sight fishing or head hunting a
particular piece of water as this is our expertise and our
passion. We are a service for those anglers seeking interesting,
intimate fly fishing experiences - our focus within
any guided trip is what can be learned in the day and what neat,
intimate moments can our guests experience with a particular
fish or piece of water. We always try our best to either sight
fish or head hunt.
While
we know central Alberta extremely well, we love to explore tiny
tributaries, poking around tiny spring fed waters that offers
sighting, new reaches of streams, or hatch chasing. We may host
you on a specific water or we may take you on an exploratory
trip to a unique water.
Our
style is to keep fly fishing grounded and we tend to
be under-stated on the water. Sight fishing and hatch chasing
aren't elusive activities, brown trout aren't wary quarry only
bestowed upon only the elite of fly fishing, and larger
cutthroat trout aren't hard to find. We engage good fish,
certainly, but aren't too concerned about sizes or numbers. We
focus on the enjoyment and breaking fly fishing down to its core
in order to provide you opportunity to enjoy. The moments on the water are what they are
and we hope to bring you what you enjoy, finding peace and satisfaction in what you
do.
You will be hosted by Dave or Amelia Jensen.
We're good guides that care and engage in a happy, courteous
manner to ensure you get the most out of the day.

program today hires gov enforcement staff on other waters in the
province, as well as directs funds to land use reclamation.
Funding is through a variety of industrial companies and lobby
groups, as well as special sentencing from environmental court
cases. We are no longer involved but this great program
continues.

"I just wanted to drop you
both a quick note of thanks for your hospitality and
hard work on our guided trips, as well as your advice on
the Ram. Our last day of fishing on this trip couldn't
have been better; the setting was beautiful and the
fishing was spectacular. We didn't see anyone else on
the river all day... and even David managed to hook some
trout! I will definitely be back! Thanks again, Eric."
"Thanks to
all of you for a great trip on Aug 16 to the N. Ram. It was
a perfect day, and Nick did a great job!
Pete"
"You and Amelia are the best guides I ever had. I had a
great trip. I am sad to go back to Philly. Thanks
again for all of your patience and guidance. All the

"Hi
Amelia. Made it back safe to Calgary. Am now at the
airport waiting to depart. Thank you (all of you) for
this past week. It was awesome!!! You all went out of
your way to make my trip a memorable experience. The
fishing was unbelievable, but the best part was the
people. Thanks!!! Bill"
"Dave & Amelia,
your guiding was spectacular. The knowledge you have of
the river and the ability to locate those HUGE brown
trout on the Red Deer River is uncanny! Thank you for
the best trout fishing trip of our lives!" ~

"Dear Dave and Amelia. Just a quick note to thank you
and Steve for an absolutely fantastic trip. The river
was better than advertised, the scenery fantastic and
the fishing "out of sight". If you ever need a
testimonial for this trip give me a call and I could
probably write two or three pages. Steve was an awesome
guide, a great fisherman and a genuine great person. His
culinary skills are second to none. The food was great
and the company better. Thanks again for an experience
of a life time. Larry Davis"
"Dave,
thank you for your extreme patience with my son, it allowed
you to work with him. Being able to see him getting his
casting in order and hooking into your 23" 'pet' brown trout
on the rise was a moment of a lifetime. THANK YOU!"
Donaldson family, MI
"Had a good
time, especially with Amelia. She is a very hard-working and
knowledgeable guide. Really puts the boat in position for
successful casts to holding lies."

"Once again thanks a
million for the extraordinary experience last week at
Fortress Lake and on the Ram River. Thank you for
tolerating my very rusty flyfishing skills as well
although the fish tempered it nicely. I would expect
that these compliments are common for you on these
trips, but it really was the most enjoyable vacation I
have been on in a long time. The solitude and serenity
(no pun intended) from the trip was both spiritual and
therapeutic for me. Definitely something I will not
forget. Even the fabulous photos we took cannot begin to
do justice to grandeur of the areas we visited. It has
rejuvenated my love of angling and the outdoors. Not
sure how to top this trip with weather, water and fish
all cooperating. Please thank all you support staff as
well, Bob, Amelia, Michael, Marty and his wife. Much
gratitude again for organizing such a great outing. Talk
to you soon. Alex" |
We had a period
where we knew the fishing was going to be really slow.
We emailed ahead and told Jon this was the case but he
came anyway. We did 1/2 a day and he realized that it
would be slow, in fact. So, we postponed the trip and
provided detailed instructions on waters in the far
south of Alberta. Jon & Bill went down south and fished
on their own and emailed
"Hi
Dave, I just wanted to thank you for not just taking us
for a boat ride last week. You are a good businessman,
few - if any - guides would do this! I enjoyed fishing
down south. The xxx turned out to have no bugs but I can
see the possibility. It had my favorite feature, no
people. Caught some really nice rainbows on the
Crowsnest and for a weekend only saw a couple of other
fisherman. On the last day we fished the xxx and found
some eighteen to twenty inch Cutthroats. A beautiful
place. Thanks again for all of your directions. When you
put next year calendar together let me know what will
work. Thank you again" Jon |
| "I just wanted to
drop you guys a note thanking you for our stay, and how
you handled Craig's (my brother) difficult situation . I
had a great time and really enjoy the crew you have put
together. I am doing my best to expand your customer
base, both personally and through my shop. I know our
crew is looking forward to another trip."

"Alex and I
very much enjoyed fishing with you! Thanks for a super day.
I am sure we will all be joining you and Dave at Fortress
Lake, and try and snag some big brookies. Regards,
Mike."

"Kelly
and I had a wonderful experience with Dave the canyon
and the fish. Kelly even said she would stay 2 nights
next year. I think I would like to go up to the lake,
but we will see. I never thanked Dave enough for his
enabling Kelly to experience the outdoors in the best
possible way. Thanks again Dave. We will keep in touch."

"We want to
thank you for the amazing trip. Moreover we are thrilled
with the photography of our trip. You are professionals
every step of the way and the magazine quality photos you
take and sent us reflected this. Thank you for a wonderful
trip!" Burgan Family, Utah. |
From
AK Best & John Gierach. "Just a short note to thank you for showing us
where the good fishing is. In particular, the 23" brown,
my largest dry fly brown to date! You are a good guide
and it was a pleasure to share several days with you. I
am eager to see some photos of the big fish, what a
prize he is. Thanks again, Dave. I hope we can repeat a
visit and include more fishing with you. Take care &
good luck!" |
| "Amelia,
thank you for putting us on to the big brown trout. Getting
out of the boat and standing in the water wading back up to
them was a hilight of my fly fishing life. It is an amazing
river you have up there. We will be back soon!"

"Wow! You
guys are true Canadian Fishing Guides. The midnight run was
amazing! The past 5 days were incredible. You have such
diversity in your fishing region. The scenery, the fishing,
the hospitality are all world class. Thank you!"

"Amelia,
Thanks for the great day on the river. It was a great time!
Now we know more about the river and what to expect we'll
definitely do it again. Amelia, great job of guiding, lots
of knowledge about the river and the habitat and a good job
with the boat in difficult conditions. I'll check out your
website for some details on the Ram River trips, they
sound real interesting. Thanks again. "

"Just wanted to
thank you both for a great time. I think you have the
most perfect "couples" fish camp we have ever been in,
and we can't wait to come back. I will send a couple of
those later this week to compete with your "ordinary"
shots of 4 and 5 pound brookies!"

"Best guide ever!"
